Clear Word – There can be only one (Isaiah 44:6-8)

Today’s Reading: Isaiah 43-46

Today’s Reflection: Isaiah 44:6-8

6) Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.  7) Who is like me? Let him proclaim it.  Let him declare and set it before me, since I appointed an ancient people.  Let them declare what is to come, and what will happen.  8) Fear not, nor be afraid; have I not told you from of old and declared it?  And you are my witnesses!  Is there a God besides me?  There is no Rock; I know not any.”

The plain and simple truth is that there is only one God.

There are many conceptions about God, many ideas about who He is, about why He made us, and why He works within this world the way He does.  But the truth about God is exactly what God says it is.  He is our redeemer, the lord of hosts, the Rock.

There are many who reject the true God for various reasons.  Some insist there is no god.  Some say there is another god.  Some claim a standard for how a god must behave that clearly the Christian God doesn’t live up to.  Some substitute something else in place of god.  But the truth is there would be no world without God (there is a reason the theory of evolution is still just a theory).  The truth is there is no other god—none who can proclaim or declare any power before the true God.  The truth is our standards, ideas or thoughts cannot come close to containing the enormity of who God is (Job 38-41).  The truth is giving something or someone else the devotion and worship due only to God will only destroy us.

If you want what only a god can provide, you have only one option.  If you want guidance, friendship, love, salvation, discipline, and to truly be shaped into a better person, you have only one option.  Don’t fool yourself into thinking you have the truth about Him if you haven’t inquired of Him.  God gives wisdom freely to those who ask of it, so ask.

There can only be one god in your life.  Don’t you think it should be the true God?

Isaiah 46:9 – Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.
